About the Author

Dr. Prof. Abdullah Sadiq (Born 1940) is a Pakistani nuclear physicist and ICTP laureate who received the ICTP Prize in honour of Nikolay Bogolyubov, in the fields of Mathematics and Solid State Physics in 1987 for his contributions to scientific knowledge in the field of Solid State Physics. Dr. Sadiq is also a renowned educationist of Pakistan. He specializes in Nuclear Physics, Solid State Physics, Quantum Physics, Particle Physics, Theoretical Physics,Mathematical Physics and Condensed Matter Physics. He has been a distinguished professor of Nuclear Physics, Solid State Physics, High Energy Physics in many universities of Pakistan.

My Friend Faheem

Faheem was one of the first people I befriended in early 1971 on my return from my graduate studies in the States, a friendship that survived till he breathed his last. The reasons go much beyond our common interest in physics and physics education and even our common associations with the Physics Department of Quaid-e-Azam University and the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy, places where we frequently met. Perhaps the main reason was that we both were greatly influenced by the Black and the anti-Vietnam movements in the States and the broader anti-establishment student movement of the sixties.
